DESKEY BALL PEN
In 1928,
the short-lived but important American Designers' Gallery opened
in New York and introduced consumers to modern interiors and
furnishings by designers, one of which was Donald Deskey. The
Minnesota-born Deskey was a multi-talented and innovative
furniture, interior, graphic and industrial designer,
widely-known for his 1932 interior for Radio City Music Hall, as
well as designing some of America's most iconic logos and symbols
PEACOCK FEATHERS BALL PEN
inspired by Louis
Comfort Tiffany’s (American, 1848–1933) iridescent glass vase
produced by Tiffany Glass and Decorating Company in 1900. The
piece stylizes the “eye” of the peacock feather with rich
iridescent hues that gradate to a light blue surrounding the
eyes.
MUGHAL CARPET BALL PEN,
The
Mughal Carpet Ballpoint Pen is adapted from a luxurious carpet in
the Museum’s collection. This carpet features a floral pattern
similar to Persian designs. However, the precision of the stemmed
plants on the border is a mark of Indian achievement..
MEISSEN FLORAL BALL PEN
The
Meissen Floral Ballpoint Pen was inspired by a large white
baluster-shaped vase with a Kakiemon flower and bird design, now
on display at the Museum. Because of the popularity of Japanese
designs, specifically the colorful floral designs of Kakiemon
porcelains, they were imitated by the major eighteenth-century
European manufactures.
EGYPTIAN PATTERNS BALL PEN
The
Metropolitan Museum of Art has released a collection of colorful
and artistically styled ball pens. The Met collection range
incorporates intricately and elegantly detailed interpretations
of some of the Museum's most famous works of art in the shape and
functionality.
