It started in 1928, when Rotring founder Wilhelm Riepe began a search for the perfect writing
instrument. One that would combine the best qualities of the
American drawing ink pen with the fountain pen: a writing
instrument that would write evenly, make carbon copies, and not
drip or blot. The result was an ink pen that used a tube
instead of a nib: the Rotring Tiku or Inkograph. It became a
byword for perfect writing performance. The history of the Tiku
is a microcosm of the history of Rotring: a search for
innovative solutions to writing needs. To this day Rotring
creates writing instruments that set the standard, from
multi-function pens to the unique Initial, which has ushered in
